When Jesus said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick” (Luke 5:31), He wasn’t just describing His mission—He was revealing His nature.
Jesus is the Great Physician. He cares deeply about every area of our lives—and yes, He still heals today.
From the very beginning, God revealed Himself as a healer. In Exodus 15:26, He said, “I am the Lord who heals you.” In Psalm 103, David praised Him as the One “who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases” (v. 3). And the Gospels are filled with scenes where Jesus moved with compassion and healed every sickness and every disease among the people.
Luke paints the picture vividly. He shows Jesus constantly surrounded by people in need—restoring sight to the blind, strength to the lame, hope to the hopeless. He writes that Jesus was almost always coming from healing someone or on His way to heal someone. That was the rhythm of His life—and it still is. His compassion has not diminished. His will has not changed.
As we draw close to Jesus and embrace the promises in God’s Word by faith, amazing and wonderful things happen. Faith is the hand that reaches out to receive what God’s grace freely gives. The promises of God are like seeds—full of potential, but dormant until touched by faith.
One of the most beautiful examples is the woman with the issue of blood. For twelve years she suffered. She had tried everything and found no cure. But she heard about Jesus—and believed.
She said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well” (Matthew 9:21). And when she reached out and touched Him, power flowed from Him, and she was healed instantly.
What set her apart? Her touch was different. Many brushed against Jesus out of curiosity or coincidence. She touched Him with faith. She reached with trust, and He responded with tenderness—calling her “Daughter” and saying, “Your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
But her faith was based on a promise. Being a Jew, she would have known the prophecy about the coming Messiah. Malachi 4:2 says, “The Sun of Righteousness [a term for the Messiah] shall arise with healing in His wings.” The Hebrew word translated wings also describes the hem of a garment in Scripture. She repeatedly said, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well” (Matthew 9:21). And that is why she forcefully grasped the border of His garment (Luke 8:44).
She acted on a promise, as were all the people in Mark 6:56 where we are told, “Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.”
That same kind of faith still moves God’s heart today. When we trust in His promises, we are trusting in Him. And even when we don’t yet see the results, we can hold fast to this truth: A delay is not a denial.
So what do we do while we wait? We keep believing. We keep giving attention to His Word. We let faith fill our hearts until it drives out fear. Because faith is sustained not by feelings, but by focus—by fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Friend, whatever kind of healing you need, remember this: Jesus has not changed. The same compassion that reached out to lepers and blind men, to the brokenhearted and the outcast, is reaching out to you today. He still heals. He still restores. He still makes people whole.
Reach out in faith—and receive His healing touch.
