It was late at night as I lay across the hood of my truck on a remote road in the mountains. I had had it. I wanted answers.

So I began to pray, “God, if this is real…if Jesus is Your Son…if this whole Gospel thing is real, then I’ve got some questions.” So I began firing off question after question. I even shouted a few!

Silence. No answer.

The next night I found myself at a street mission filled with derelicts and drug addicts. And all of a sudden, people got up one after another and framed the very questions I had shouted at God the night before…almost verbatim…with answers straight from Scripture.

God had sent people as a direct answer to my prayer the night before. And that night—many years ago—I came to Christ.

I suppose God could have written the answer in the sky for me, or He could have sent an angel. And on rare occasions, God does some unusual things like that. But most of the time, God answers people’s prayers through people—people like you and me.

He does that because the truth is, God lives in people.

There are people you know and people you don’t know who are praying right now. They say, “God, if You are real, show me!” There are people who are in deep distress in need of encouragement and resources.

I believe, as the Scripture says, the eyes of the Lord are searching to and fro throughout the whole earth to find someone whose heart is fully His. And I think His eyes are looking for someone who’s willing to become a part of the miraculous and become an answer to someone’s prayer.

But the thing is, you must first be available if you want God to use you to answer someone’s prayer.

Do you remember the story of Ananias? After Jesus appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus, Saul was blinded and began to pray. That’s when God appeared to Ananias to tell him to go to Saul, the persecutor of Christians. While hesitant, Ananias went as God commanded. And because an ordinary believer like Ananias obeyed God, it changed the course of history. (Acts 9)

Saul of Tarsus became the apostle Paul who evangelized and established churches throughout the known world, and he wrote about half of the New Testament—all because someone was willing to become an answer to someone else’s prayer.

You too can be an answer to someone’s prayer. And it starts by being available!
